Empires - Islam: Empire of Faith: This was aired as a special PBS, and gives a historical overview of Islam in its development from nomadic warring tribes in the Arabian Peninsula (which Mohammed united under one religion) through the huge empires that followed. The Muslims were great patrons of arts, science and religion, and it was the Muslim institutions of learning which rivaled the Greeks. The western world owes the Muslim culture a great debt.
